Jonas Schaaf conducted his field research in Abuja from mid-October to mid-November. In interviews with ECOWAS officials whose work is related to the project’s themes, practices and logics of civil society inclusion in the West African regional organization’s interventions were identified. Together with the findings from the field research at the African Union, he will publish the results of the analysis in one single and one co-authored article.

Despite an upcoming summit and several election-related deployments, several insightful in-depth interviews were conducted with ECOWAS officials working on interventions. These were supplemented by interviews with members of regionally active civil society organizations. Jonas Schaaf is grateful to all the research participants for generously giving their time for interviews in a busy period, and to the office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung for providing logistical and thematic support for the field research.
