ANCIP at the status conference of the Federal Ministry for Research, Technology and Space

On 4-5 November, ANCIP network members Antonia Witt, Ulf Engel, Christof Hartmann and Jasmin Schmitz presented the research network at the status conference of the Federal Ministry for Science, Technology, and Space. The conference brought together all regional centers, competence networks, and junior research groups supported in the Ministry funding lines “Strengthening and Development of Peace and Conflict Research” and “Junior Research Groups in Natural Scientific Peace and Conflict Research with a Focus on Arms Control”.

The conference began and ended with panel discussions on current developments in the field of peace and conflict research, as well as the challenges that researchers are currently facing. During the opening panel moderated by Nadia Klein (DLR), Nathan Wood (TU Hamburg), Marc von Boemcken (BICC), and Sabine von Löwis (ZOIS) discussed the relevance of increasingly militarised language for the field, interdisciplinary integration, and best practices regarding science transfer. Particularly, the subject of science transfer was discussed further during the concluding panel, also moderated by Nadia Klein (DLR). Thomas Held (DSF), Christina Norwig (BMFTR), and Conrad Schetter (BICC), and the audience discussed how communicating findings to political and societal stakeholders can be improved, as well as how the funding from the Federal Ministry for Science, Technology, and Space can be harnessed more effectively.

The event provided 15 research projects with the opportunity to share insights into their current progress, achieved milestones, and future outlook through poster presentations. Panels were conceived as to further interdisciplinary exchange among projects and support the building of synergies for future research. ANCIP members discussed key research findings, the development of the ANCIP database and dashboard, as well as the network’s experiences in knowledge transfer. The presentations further opened up room for other participants from research and public institutions to inquire more about ANCIP and learn about how the core concepts are understood and how the outputs contribute to the research on non-military conflict intervention practices. For the ANCIP competence network, the conference provided a valuable opportunity to connect with other researchers in the field, learn about their work, and receive constructive feedback on our progress.
