9th ANCIP Workshop in Frankfurt
At the beginning of May, the ANCIP research network came together to kick off the second funding phase granted by the BMFTR. The two-day workshop took place on May 7-8, 2026, at PRIF in Frankfurt, which now coordinates the research network. The workshop focused on intensifying cross-institutional ANCIP cooperation and on developing strategies to consolidate ANCIP’s research agenda. We planned new meeting formats within the network, discussed concrete formats for knowledge transfer, and planned conference panels.
Over the next two years, the ANCIP network’s research will build on findings from the past four years and take into account the profoundly changed global geopolitical moment. At the heart of the second phase is the extension and sustainability of the ANCIP database. This is coordinated between Leipzig and Frankfurt, extending the database temporally and spatially, and by adding additional source material. The project also seeks to further develop the visualizations of intervention data we initiated in the first phase through an interactive dashboard. Building on the ANCIP database and findings from the first phase, the subproject based at PRIF interrogates the intersection of military and non-military interventions. It asks how military and non-military intervention practices are interconnected and what implications arise from such intersections. The sub-project at INEF focuses on researching how African regional organizations adapt their non-military conflict intervention practices in light of shifting global power constellations and an increasingly contested geopolitical environment.
