7th ANCIP Workshop in Frankfurt
From 7 to 9 July, the members of the ANCIP network met at the Peace Research Institute Frankfurt (PRIF) for the seventh biannual coordination meeting. With nine months left of the current funding period, the focus of the workshop was on finalizing the outputs of the ANCIP network, including preparation of journal articles as well as the new ANCIP webinar series.
In addition to the established practice of reporting on progress from each sub-project, ANCIP members discussed two draft journal articles: one by Elisabeth Warnck and Vincent Schober presenting the ANCIP Database, and one by Jonas Schaaf, Issaka K. Souaré, Lamine Savané, and Antonia Witt on inclusion practices and patterns in AU and ECOWAS interventions in Guinea and Mali. In addition, ANCIP Fellow Cheryl Hendricks presented her work on “Resetting the Women Peace and Security Agenda in Africa”, which will soon be published in the ANCIP Working Papers Series.
As in previous workshops, insights from and methodological reflections about field research featured prominently on the workshop agenda. Hilda Milka Koyier shared reflections on her fieldwork conducted in Côte d’Ivoire in May and June as part of her sub-project on the practices of the AU and ECOWAS Liaison Offices. Moreover, Vincent Schober and Elisabeth Warnck presented updates on the development of the ANCIP Dashboard in collaboration with a third-party provider specializing in data visualization.
The third day concluded with an exercise that helped ANCIP members to fine-tune their publication strategies. Further, the group completed the planning and technical preparation of the ANCIP Webinar Series. The first webinar on “African Union Responses to Unconstitutional Changes of Government: Current Challenges and Lessons Learned” with panelists Ambassador Said Djinnit, El-Ghassim Wane, and Antonia Witt took place on 10 July. The recording of the webinar is available here. The next webinar in the series will take place on July 18. Mona Saleh and ANCIP Fellow Emma Birikorang will discuss “ECOWAS at 50: Reflections, Interventions, and Regional Order” with Ambassador Abdel-Fatau Musah, ECOWAS Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security.
